Families got a double dose of entertainment at the River & Rowing Museum on Saturday with activities to both celebrate Chinese New Year and to join in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch.
For Chinese New Year there were craft activities to celebrate the year of the rooster in different areas of the museum. Downstairs in the Thames Room, families could keep warm inside and see and watch the many birds in nature garden below through the big glass windows. Whilst we were only there for a short time we saw a robin, blue tit and a wren.
Helen Cook, Head of Learning at the Museum said, “‘We were delighted to support the RSPB with the Big Garden Birdwatch this year and offer families a day of nature-themed activities. Visitors were able to make bird feeders, spy a whole host of birds feeding in our nature area and design their own binoculars. As it is the Year of the Rooster we were also celebrating Chinese New Year and families got crafty making lanterns, lucky envelopes and rooster puppets. We were particularly pleased with the 5 star feedback!”
