UKIP has Suspended Town Councillor David Silvester from the Party

UKIP has suspended Town Councillor David Silvester from the party after he blamed recent flooding on the government’s legalisation of gay marriage AND claiming being gay ‘is a disease’

UKIP leader Nigel Farage said he was entitled to his “strong Baptist view of the world”, but had defied a request not to do further media interviews.

Mr Farage said: “So we suspended him, quite rightly.”

“He’s not a spokesman for the party” Mr Farage continued, adding: “I’ve never even met him.”

Earlier in the day Mr Silvester was quoted on radio as saying “My prayer for (gay people) is they will be healed” and “(being gay) is a spiritual disease… it’s not what I say, it’s what the Bible says.”

The party’s South East chairman Roger Bird stated the councillor had acted “contrary to party requests and continued to court the media”. Hardly surprising that UKIP has now used emergency powers to suspend him.

Henley Town Council should do the same.

Local resident Sarah Butcher has started a petition to ask for his resignation from the Town Council.  If you would like to sign this please go to – Sign petition

Did you get this into the national media? The Henley Standard really missed a trick in not realising what a good story this was. If so, well done.

David is a bit of a fruit**** and it`s a bit hard on UKIP that they are paying the price for his personal comments.
