College to Host All-Student Production

Flora-Wolf-posterFollowing on from December’s production of The Elephant Man the New Year begins with another production, The Wolf Inside, by Nick Rothwell and Flora Kimberley.

However, this production is a little different because in a break from the norm it is written by, directed by and stars students. Head of Drama Nic Saunders explained: ‘This is the first time in over a decade that a production has been staged at the College that is entirely the work of students without staff involvement.’

The play is directed by and co-written by second year A Level Drama and Theatre Studies student Flora Kimberley. She said: ‘This play is very personal to me and I wrote it to help me get over a difficult period in my own life. I asked my teachers if I could stage it and they said yes. The Drama department has been very supportive and given me guidance throughout the process, but this really is a student driven production – it stars students, is written and directed by myself and I hope people will support it in the same way they would regular College productions.’

Nic Saunders continued: ‘Flora approached me with the idea and she’s a very capable student – passionate and driven – and we wanted to support her. We don’t normally stage productions without staff direction, but Flora was very persuasive and her and her team have worked really hard to bring the idea to life. I’ve seen it in rehearsal and I think audiences will really enjoy it. And who knows, maybe this is the start of something new for the department?.’

The play is inspired in part by the story of Little Red Riding Hood, but is a dark and sinister retelling of the story with modern overtones. The production will be staged in the College’s D4 Studio Theatre from Tuesday 21 January until Thursday 23 January. Tickets are priced at £4.00 and will be available on the door.
