Good job Simon Cowell didn’t turn up last night to see No Direction’s hilarious performance for the Living Advent Calendar at Stuart Turner offices.  Members of the band, Dan Clipston, Martin Holland, Pete McConnell (Henley’s Town Centre Manager) and Martyn Cooper delighted the audience with their mad singing and ukulele playing of some favourite Christmas songs including ‘Rockin Around the Christmas Tree and ‘Santa’s Comin to Town’.  At times singing the wrong words or playing the wrong music – it made fantastic entertainment.  Peter McConnell said, “We had trouble seeing the music in the light!”

Dressed in Santa outfits described by Martin Holland as, ‘Colour Blind Santa (himself), Had this Santa Suit a long time Santa, One I borrowed from the Town Hall Santa and Plainly Just Weird Santa.’  They were joined by After Dinner Bints; Patrick Causer on guitar and Kate Cooper on percussion.

Henley Brewhouse kindly provided the refreshments last night of warm cider, delicious sausage rolls and goats cheese and cranberry tarts.

The Mayor, Stefan Gawrysiak joined by Martin Holland drew the raffle prize which Martin said, If we’d donated the prizes, 1st prize would be one evening with No Direction, 2nd prize two consecutive evenings with No Direction and 3rd prize would for us to come and stay for a week as our wives want to get rid of us!”  The actual prize was a personal fitness session donated by Urban Fitness which was won by Phil Chappell from Best of Henley, one of the event’s sponsors.

Julie Perigo the event organiser said last night “I often describe the Living Advent Calendar as home knitted and tonight’s performance would be best described as a chunky Aran sweater!”
