A local music agency in Henley is staging a concert to raise money for the DEC Philippines Typhoon Appeal.
The Rays of Hope Concert is to be held on December 9 at the River & Rowing Museum in Henley and will feature 12 acts representing the very best in local talent. There will also be special guest appearances from two former contestants of the BBC1 TV show The Voice UK.
Jayson Jaurigue, Managing Director of Eight Ray Music who is originally from the Philippines and has family based there, felt compelled to show his support following the disaster that struck the island on November 8, when Typhoon Haiyan killed more than 4,000 people and affected an estimated 11 million others.
Mr Jaurigue, 28, who visits his family once a year in the Philippines said: “I am fortunate that none of my family has been affected by this terrible disaster but I felt so shocked when seeing the footage on TV and reading about the total devastation caused, that I had to do something to help.”
The concert is to be hosted by Jamie Bruce who appeared on BBC’s The Voice UK earlier this year and will be opened by Miss Kitty’s, a modern burlesque act managed by Mollie Marriott who is a Henley resident and daughter of the rock legend Steve Marriott from the Small Faces. Other acts in the line-up include the BBC Radio 2 Folk Award Winner Megan Henwood and well-known Henley bands Junior Guevarra, the Tom Michell Trio and Brother Strut.
The event is being supported and sponsored by a number of local Henley businesses including Eight Ray Music, the River & Rowing Museum, Magoos and Ri-Web.
Mr Jaurigue added: “I would like to thank everyone who has shown their support so far including our main supporters and sponsors and of course the acts that will be performing on the night and who are giving up their time and talent for free. We’re looking forward to a great night of live music and entertainment and hope the people of Henley will show their support for this important cause.
Tickets for the fund-raiser which will take place from 7.30pm at the River & Rowing Museum in Henley cost £25 cash on the door.
