‘Ideal’ Show for Henley Rock Choir

henley-rock-choirHenley Rock Choir members recently dazzled an audience of hundreds with a special performance at the Ideal Home Show in London’s Earls Court Arena.

Local Rock Choir Leader Lucy Hewes conducted the 60-strong choir through a repertoire of feel good songs at the prestigious national show, on 17 November.

“It was a fantastic day,” says Lucy, who has run Rock Choir’s fun, weekly sessions at Valley Road School since 2009. “The whole choir performed like true professionals in front of the very large, enthusiastic audience!”

Exciting events like this are all in a day’s work for Lucy and her talented Henley Rock Choir members. In the last 12 months alone they’ve performed at London’s 02 Arena, sung with DJ Mike Reid, Sir John Madejski and the Mayor of Henley-on-Thames in aid of Comic Relief, and been part of Rock Choir’s 6,000 strong ‘circle of sound’ at Wembley Stadium – where they entertained thousands of spectators at the Saracens versus Toulouse rugby international.

And that’s not all for 2013. The Choir are hard at work rehearsing for their performance in support of the “Missing People” Charity, which will take place at British Home Stores on Broad Street, Reading on the 5 December at 6pm and 7pm.

“Taking part in exciting events like these is one of the many benefits of being in the UK’s favourite contemporary choir, and we have lots in store for 2014,” she explains. “There aren’t many opportunities for people to get together and sing freely these days, and Rock Choir really fills that gap. Everyone is welcome and there are no auditions or requirements to read music.”

Bringing people together in their local communities and giving them the chance to sing in a supportive, friendly environment is what Rock Choir is all about. Choir members attend fun, weekly rehearsals where they learn specially arranged and choreographed pop, rock and Motown songs, leading up to exciting performances at local and national events – many of which support charity. In 2012 alone Rock Choir helped raise over £1 million for charity.

“Rock Choir is for people who love to sing, including those who normally only sing in the shower or when they think no one is listening,” explains Lucy. “We firmly believe that everyone can sing, and the rich sounds the choir makes after only a few rehearsals is truly inspiring. We’re always on the look out for new choir members, and anyone interested in joining can try a free taster session first.”

Henley Rock Choir runs every Thursday during term time, from 8.00pm-9.30pm, at Valley Road School. To book a free taster session or find out more, visit www.rockchoir.com or telephone 01252 714 276.
