On Monday evening the venues, sponsors and chosen charities for this year got together for the launch of the programme for the Living Advent Calendar at Hotel due Vin which opens its first door again on the 1st December.

The Living Advent Calendar is a joint partnership venture of the Henley Partnership and the Henley Town Council and is the brainchild of Julie Perigo who found the original idea in Stockholm and started it in Henley in 2011. It has since been copied in Wokingham, Windsor, Banbury and Twyford.  This year the main sponsor is Sothebys International Realty and other supporting sponsors are Bremont Watches, The Head Partnership, Towergate Insurance, Best of Henley and Henley Town Council.  There is also over 60 local businesses and organisations getting involved this year which is twice as many as in the first year.

From the 1st December, and then every evening until the 24th December from 6.15pm a different window or door is opened and a 15 minute surprise performance is given to the audience assembled.  This can include songs, carols, music, poetry, book excerpts, dance etc.  Every evening a collection is made for the chosen local charities which this year are the Regatta for the Disabled, Henley Youth Centre, the Oceans Project and the the Royal British Legion.

The venues for this year start with the Town Hall on the 1 December and  include the Fire Station, Hobbs New Orleans, the River & Rowing Museum, Hotel du Vin, Henley College, The Bull on Bell Street, Phyllis Court, St Mary’s Church and the Kenton Theatre.  A full list and map can be downloaded here.
