Auction of Promises Raises Lots of Money for Local Charities

auction-of-promises-2The Auction of Promises on Saturday night at the Town Hall which was organised by Paula Isaac and Dave Eggleton from Gainsborough raised £2,786 from the auction items and a raffle.

Paula and Dave would like to thank Simon Jones from Jones and Jacob Auctioneers in Wallington who ran the auction so brilliantly.

There were lots of different auction items included tea with the Mayor in the Mayor’s Parlour, a tour of Leander with Debbie Flood and the top auction item – a box of Beatles records donated by Olivia Harrison which went for £265.

Matthew Bunton who was the highest bidder on the Beatles album box set said, “On Saturday evening I was pleased to find a warm and welcoming atmosphere, just like the one my  neighbours have given me since moving to Gainsborough Crescent earlier this year. Perusing the list of items to be auctioned, all generously donated by local Henley resident andbeatles-box-set businesses I was excited to see Lot No. 33 a collector’s box of 14 Beatles albums on vinyl with an accompanying book.  I was in the same year at Gillotts as George’s nephew Ian so it was an extra special reason to me and vinyl records have been a life-long passion of mine.  I can remember listening to Abbey Road and Here Comes the Sun when I was only 2 years old.  It was an unmissable opportunity to buy some of the world’s most memorable music in my favourite format.  And with all the money going to extremely worthwhile causes, I leapt and the chance and was over the moon to win this set of amazing records.  I would very much like to thank all the people involved in organising and donating the items for the fundraising auction last Saturday night.”

First-Prize-Raffle-WinnerSasha Johnson aged 9 from Bix was the winner of the first prize of the raffle of £100 cash.  She said, I’m so excited I’ve never money any money before.”

The money raised will be going to five local causes –

  • Thames Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance
  • Headway Henley
  • Children’s Cancer Leukemia Group based at the John Radcliffe Hospital
  • Bishopswood School
  • Gainsborough Residents Group to raise funds for improvements to Makins Recreation Ground

Paula said, “We had a great night, everyone had lots of fun and we raised a fantastic amount for charity.”
