Memorable Trip to Berlin for German GCSE Students

Students in front of the iconic Brandenburger Tor with their teacher Mrs Davidson.
Although only in Berlin for 4 days, 21, Year 11 students who are studying German to GCSE had a full range of experiences including a very emotional visit to Sachsenhausen concentration camp (pictured below) situated just outside Berlin and a visit to a former Stasi prison Berlin Hohenschoenhausen in East Berlin where a former political prisoner described his day to day life there. It was the same prison used in the film about the Stasi ‘ The lives of others’.
On a lighter note, the students enjoyed shopping time on the Ku’damm – Berlin’s equivalent of Oxford Street, a boat trip on the River Spree and a bowling evening on the ‘Alex’ – Alexanderplatz. The students have also become experts on Berlin’s S-Bahn, U-Bahn, and Strassenbahn (urban railway, underground and tram)!
A truly memorable few days!
