Henley College students Michael Legg and Kane Small recently completed a successful three-week work placement at a leading European internet company.

The initiative was supported by the Reading Düsseldorf Association, which promotes the friendship between Reading and its German ‘twin’. With over 600 employees, Euroweb GmbH is a full service web company based in Düsseldorf, Germany, and operates in 30 locations across the continent.

In a message to the Chairman of the Reading Düsseldorf Association, Robert Dimmick, Michael Legg said: ‘The trip was fantastic, we enjoyed it thoroughly. Euroweb were very helpful with everything and we learned a lot.’

He added: ‘Our experiences and adventures will help us from now on to plan our working careers and to decide what we want to do in future.’

Kane Small, said: ‘For the first time in my life I worked eight hours a day and five days a week. But the work that I put into this project was worth all the effort.

I also learned something about life in Düsseldorf, planning and organising daily life at work, and doing it in a foreign country away from home. It was good preparation for university and for work afterwards – a great experience that I wouldn’t have wanted to miss.’

Euroweb are now planning to offer a full three-year apprenticeship for two students, one from England and another from Spain, and hope that someone from Reading will be able to take up the offer.
